Aptio and AMIBIOS in Interesting Places!

Aptio® and AMIBIOS® are everywhere – and they often show up in some interesting and unusual places!

Because AMIBIOS and Aptio UEFI Firmware from AMI are installed on all types of systems the world over, from servers to desktops, notebooks and tablets, all the way down to embedded systems such as those driving digital signage systems, often times a system reboot will provide interesting photo opportunities.

We are always amused when eagle-eyed computer enthusiasts send us photos on Twitter and Facebook when they find AMIBIOS in unusual places! To get an idea, take a look at the pictures below illustrating some of the places Aptio and AMIBIOS have been:

A note of clarification: As many readers probably already know, this can happen on older system boards. It is not actually a firmware/BIOS crash, but instead an instance where the operating system cannot load. Often, digital signage and kiosks have older system boards in them that use a battery to hold the location of the boot drive in the BIOS. Overtime, the battery reaches maturity and can no longer maintain its BIOS settings. When they reboot from power loss, the system restarts to the BIOS splash screen because it does not know the location of the boot drive. With newer system boards, the BIOS settings are not lost like before, since the settings are not backed up by battery. When looking at newer systems, you may see an onboard battery, however that is typically used for the onboard system clock and not for storing BIOS settings.
