The Trendiest Tech Topics

In the technology sector, we always see innovative things being developed. Sometimes you ask yourself, "I wonder if this kind of technology exists yet?" and when you pull up a Google search, you see that some sort of development for that particular technology is in fact, in progress. The hype for some of these technologies is very real and the rate of new technologies coming out sometimes seems to be faster than Superman himself. We've rounded up some of the trendiest tech topics that are floating around in the technology industry right now, all of which are highly-anticipated technologies that will change the way we do things in the future.

Augmented and Virtual Reality
If you can't have the real thing, why not augment it or virtually make it appear? Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are no strangers in the technology industry; we've seen these concepts thrown around for awhile. AR and VR development is still going strong, with many tech companies trying to incorporate AR and VR in everyday life for convenience and well, fun. Take for example the release of Pokemon Go in 2016. Pokemon Go came in like a wrecking ball in the augmented reality realm, attracting users of all age groups with its innovative interface that takes real-life surroundings and augments virtual Pokemon characters into your surroundings. The hype of Pokemon Go may have simmered down, but Pokemon Go showed the potential of AR technology. Not only can AR and VR make strides in the gaming sector, but AR and VR can also be incorporated into the construction and medical sectors to virtualize certain scenarios and streamline the building and treatment processes respectively.

Self-Driving Cars
Some companies have already started testing out self-driving cars. Although the technology is still in the development stages and we have yet to see a car that can drive itself (without getting into accidents), there's a lot of hope that self-driving cars will become a thing in the future. Safety is the main issue when it comes to self-driving cars and developers are testing ways to prevent accidents from happening with these autonomous vehicles. It would be pretty nice to enjoy a little R&R while your car becomes its own chauffeur, wouldn't it?

Automation and Bots
The other week, I had to call my credit card company and I was greeted by a chatbot who for the most part, understood the purpose of the call and picked up my responses with ease. The bot eventually guided me to the final step, which was to talk to an actual customer service representative. Speaking with this bot streamlined the process for me because rather than speaking with multiple people, re-explaining my situation and being forwarded from one person to another, the one and only rep I talked to had all the information necessary to assist me. There's no doubt that automation is advancing, especially with chat bots and business bots. These bots are able to complete simple tasks and optimize business functions. Who knows, we may soon see a world straight out of the movie Her.

AI and Robots
Ok, so the concept of robots and AI is definitely not new at all. Robots have been around for a long time. But these days, we're starting to see robots that are well, very human-like. Robots were already able to perform basic tasks and now are becoming more intelligent by performing harder tasks. On top of that, not only are they becoming smarter, but they are physically becoming more like us. We probably have some time before it gets all Westworld up in here, but developers are working on robots that look more human-like, trying to mimic the physical features (skin, facial features, etc.) we humans have. It will be very interesting indeed how we will interact with robots and AI in the future, where these robots will eventually become more competent at certain tasks than we are.

IoT: Smart Homes and Offices
We've covered smart homes and cities in past articles. As we've mentioned, the IoT trend isn't slowing down anytime soon. IoT devices are making their way into homes and offices across the world to make certain tasks easier to manage. Refrigerators, thermostats, signs, machines, lights; the list is endless! With companies like Apple, Google and Amazon fine tuning their own voice-activated technology that can control IoT devices, bigger things are coming. Anticipate as you should!

Cloud-Based Everything
It seems as though everything is moving towards virtualization. Cloud-based technology is there just for that. Instead of storing data and information with "old-school" storage methods, more and more people and companies are gravitating towards cloud-based solutions. Technology companies are evolving to address growing desires for cloud-based solutions and we're starting to see more cloud-based offerings in the market.
