NORCROSS, GA, USA / CHENNAI, INDIA: - American Megatrends, Inc., (AMI), a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, is pleased to announce that AMI VitalsFit™, a smart wireless health monitoring tool created by Team Davantri, a group within the company's Indian subsidiary, American Megatrends India Pvt. Ltd., has been selected as one of the Top 5 Finalists in the prestigious $10M Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition.
A three-and-a-half year global contest sponsored by the Qualcomm Foundation, the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE challenges teams to develop a consumer-focused, mobile device capable of diagnosing and interpreting a set of roughly fifteen medical conditions and capturing a broad set of vital health metrics. Notably, Team Davantri is the only Indian team to be selected as a finalist for this competition, measuring itself against entries from U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
AMI VitalsFit, the entry from Team Davantri, is a smart and stylish wireless handheld health monitor that can be used in the comfort of one's home, or on-the-go in nearly any location. It features a number of probes and sensors that enable the user to diagnose fifteen distinct diseases, including anemia, diabetes, tuberculosis, Hepatitis A, and more. It also captures vital health data for patients to review and share with health professionals, including blood pressure, blood oxygen level, heart rate and temperature - empowering users to take a more active and engaged role in their own personal health care decisions.
American Megatrends President, CEO and Founder Subramonian Shankar expressed his delight with moving to the next round of the competition by saying, "We are excited for the visibility that this Top 5 selection brings to Team Davantri, AMI India and to our global American Megatrends team. But most importantly, we feel humbled by the opportunity to join this competition - the end result of which will be a portable health monitoring device that can have an enormous impact on the well-being of all humanity, particularly in remote and rural areas not traditionally served well by current health monitoring methods."
Team Davantri leader Sridharan Mani, CEO of American Megatrends India, offered his thoughts on the news of his team's selection by saying, "We are absolutely thrilled to be selected as one of the Top 5 finalists for this prestigious competition. We would also like to express our gratitude to the judges and the entire Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE team for providing us with this opportunity to prove our capabilities. This selection to the Top 5 validates all of our hard work, as well as the support and encouragement of the entire American Megatrends staff around the globe."
"Team Davantri encapsulates the expertise that AMI is known for, in areas as diverse as board and device-level design and integration, mobile app and interface design and the software development and mathematics that brings it all together. We are proud to be a part of this quest for healthcare innovation that can change the world and, as the competition mandates, we are contributing our maximum effort to develop and perfect a portable device that will assist individuals in diagnosing their health conditions in minutes, wherever they are," he added.
