MegaRAC SP-X for POWER8 launched in support of TYAN's introduction of the world's first non-IBM branded OpenPOWER commercial server
Demonstrations of MegaRAC SP-X and MegaRAC XMS, a complete management solution for collaborative management of network attached devices, will be showcased at COMPUTEX TAIPEI June 2-6 in booth M1209A
NORCROSS, GA, USA - American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI), a leader in robust and reliable IT solutions for centralized and collaborative management within enterprise infrastructures, today announced it has joined the OpenPOWER Foundation, an open development community based on the POWER microprocessor architecture.
AMI joins a growing roster of technology organizations working collaboratively to build advanced server, networking, storage and acceleration technology as well as industry-leading open source software aimed at delivering more choice, control and flexibility to developers of next-generation, hyperscale and cloud data centers. The group makes POWER hardware and software available to open development for the first time, as well as making POWER intellectual property licensable to others, greatly expanding the ecosystem of innovators on the platform.
AMI has been working with IBM and other OpenPOWER Foundation members like Tyan to develop enterprise server and networking solutions for next-generation data centers that integrate IBM POWER CPUs and AMI MegaRAC® Remote Management Firmware / Software Solutions.
MegaRAC® SP-X for POWER8 is a powerful development framework for server management solutions composed of firmware and software components, based on industry standards like IPMI 2.0, SMASH, Serial over LAN (SOL) and key serviceability features like remote presence, CIM profiles and advanced automation.
MegaRAC SP-X features a high level of modularity, with the ability to easily configure and build the firmware image by selecting features using an intuitive graphical development tool chain. These features are available in independently maintained packages, for superior manageability of the firmware stack.
"AMI has been a critical partner in the development of our POWER8-based platform, the TN71-BP012, which is based on the POWER8 Architecture and provides tremendous memory capacity as well as outstanding performance that fits in datacenter, big data or HPC environments," said Albert Mu, Vice President of MITAC Computing Technology Corporation's TYAN Business Unit. "We are excited that AMI has strengthened its commitment to the POWER8 ecosystem by joining the OpenPOWER Foundation."
"Participating in OpenPOWER with IBM and founding partners such as TYAN will allow AMI to more rapidly engage as this market continues to grow, and will ensure our customers receive the industry's most reliable and feature-rich platform management technologies," said Subramonian Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends. "As a market leader for core server firmware and management technologies, we are eager to assist these industry leaders enable data centers as they rethink their approach to technology."
"The development model of the OpenPOWER Foundation is one that elicits collaboration and represents a new way in exploiting and innovating around processor technology," said Brad McCredie, President of the OpenPOWER Foundation and IBM Fellow. "With the Power architecture designed for Big Data and Cloud, new OpenPOWER Foundation members like American Megatrends will be able to add their own innovations on top of the technology to create new applications that capitalize on emerging workloads."
