NORCROSS, GEORGIA: - AMI, a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, is proud to announce UEFI firmware development for Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Server for ARM 7.2 Development Preview, an unsupported, common standards-based operating system for 64-bit ARM hardware.
Red Hat is the world's leading provider of open source solutions. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is one of the world's leading enterprise Linux platforms, designed to provide high performance capabilities, stability and flexibility. The platform serves as a foundation to support different hardware platforms and provide solutions to its users, and helps to give businesses the tools to modernize their infrastructures and address the challenges in today's IT environment.
AMI, as a leading provider of BIOS and UEFI solutions, has worked with Red Hat to deliver solutions for the 64-bit ARM ecosystem. In 2014, AMI joined several other ARM ecosystem leaders to support and participate in the Red Hat ARM Partner Early Access Program, a program designed to facilitate partnerships and collaboration around partner-initiated system designs based on the 64-bit capable ARMv8-A architecture that include Red Hat software, culminating in the initial Development Preview of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for ARM in June 2015. Now AMI has begun development to enable hardware designs capable of running Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for ARM 7.2 Development Preview, aimed at providing a complete, integrated development environment for UEFI. With this development, AMI hopes to provide an efficient platform design and development experience that will meet the demands of the next-generation 64-bit ARM platforms.
Mike Werner, senior director, Global Technology Ecosystems, Red Hat
"AMI was one of the early participants in the Red Hat ARM Partner Early Access Program, and we are pleased that they are continuing their development efforts around the latest build of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for ARM Development Preview. Having consistent UEFI experience across multiple hardware platforms based on ARM architecture is important for the growing the 64-bit ARM server ecosystem. AMI's work in this space highlights the importance of collaboration between hardware and software vendors of all types when it comes to building, testing and delivering solutions built on common standards."
