AMI Announces Support for NVMe™ Host Interface in Aptio® V UEFI Firmware

Wednesday: October 28, 2015

NORCROSS, GEORGIA: - AMI, a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, is proud to announce that its flagship Aptio V® UEFI firmware now features full support for the NVM Express™ interface.

NVM Express™ is a host device interface designed for SSDs to address the growing performance needs of SSDs by utilizing the PCI Express® interface. NVMe is highly regarded for its low data latency and speed that provides users various performance improvements. As NVMe adoption continues to become more widespread, many OEMs are expected to include NVMe support for UEFI in their designs, leading to the eventual possibility of it becoming the primary form factor.

AMI has supported the NVMe interface in its Aptio V UEFI firmware since 2014. Moreover, AMI is currently the only independent BIOS vendor (IBV) that supports both UEFI and Legacy Boot. Legacy Boot is available for both the Linux® operating system and Microsoft Windows® (versions 8.1 and above), giving users expanded operating system support and multiple boot options.

Other features in Aptio V which are provided alongside Legacy Boot include SAT3 password, recovery, PassThru protocol, Pyrite and Opalite. These features are designed to make devices utilizing the NVMe interface comparable with SATA drives while leveraging their enhanced performance.

NVMe is a trademark of NVM Express, Inc. Windows® is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation. All other trademarks and registered trademarks are property of their respective owners.
