As the leading provider of BIOS and UEFI solutions, AMI offered its services and expertise to provide Aptio V firmware support for the Ryzen Threadripper processors, assisting in the creation of powerful, consumer gaming processors.

The Ryzen Threadripper processors couple high-quality design and performance to give consumers the ultimate gaming processor, offering faster multi-processing power than that of its predecessors. There are currently two models available; AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X Processor and AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X Processor. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors are now available for shipment to consumers through the AMD website.

NORCROSS, GEORGIA: - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, has added improved support for increased platform security with stronger hashing algorithms and larger encryption key sizes in Aptio® V Secure Firmware update and Secure Boot. The Aptio V signed firmware components provide support for additional cryptographic algorithms (SHA-384, SHA-512, RSA key size 4096, 8192) for core components like signed firmware updates and signed image verification (Secure Boot). This adoption qualifies the use of Aptio V firmware for the growing needs of US government and other security sensitive applications.

Hashing algorithms are a type of cryptographic algorithm. A hashing algorithm is considered a one way function that produces an output considered very difficult or impossible to derive the original input from the output. These hashing algorithms are used to preserve data integrity, pointing out modifications made to the original data. When it comes to hashing algorithms, generally the larger the hashing output, the more difficult it is to reverse engineer the original input. Encryption keys are also used in cryptographic security and work in conjunction with an encryption algorithm to hide data while it is transmitted. When it comes to key sizes, generally the larger the key, the more difficult it is to recover the original data.

Firmware security is and continues to be a big concern within the firmware industry; so much that many industry-wide specifications outline requirements and suggestions for stronger security in the changing landscape of security threats. Since firmware is vulnerable to attacks, it is necessary to have proper security protocols set up to protect the firmware. Incorporating the more powerful hash algorithms and support for larger key sizes in Aptio V Secure Firmware update and Secure Boot allow customers to expand security on their platforms.

NORCROSS, GEORGIA: - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, has enabled NVMe® namespace management support for NVMe controllers.

When setting up a new storage device in a system, a user normally partitions the drive. The purpose of partitioning a drive is to split the drive into multiple storage areas for better management. An example of partitioning in Windows would be splitting the drive in half where the OS occupies half the space and user data occupies the other half. Using this example, the user is able to re-install the operating system without the need to delete the user data in the second partition. NVMe drives provide a new way of splitting up a storage device with namespaces. Namespaces are similar to hard drive partitions; however, namespaces segment a drive at the controller level rather than through a partition table. Since namespaces split the storage device at the controller level, once segmented using namespaces, the single NVMe storage device appears as multiple devices are connected to the system.

Namespaces can offer better performance through NVMe optimized workloads. Current OS tools that offer NVMe namespace management are cumbersome command line utilities. To make the management process simpler and more advantageous for end users, AMI has enabled the management of NVMe namespaces through navigable screens in BIOS setup. By incorporating AMI’s newly added support for NVMe namespace management in Aptio V, users can easily create and manage namespaces within their systems. American Megatrends was selected early on as the shipping reference BIOS provider for the AMD EPYC™ 7000 Series data center processors and platforms. As the shipping reference BIOS provider on the AMD EPYC™ 7000 Series data center processors and platforms, AMI has worked closely with AMD, and its OEMs and ODMs during the power on phase, to help test and debug their systems. Collaboration during this key phase has helped create a powerful, robust and stable data center platform.

AMI uses DMTF's Redfish® (Redfish) API, open industry standard specification and schema, for Out-of-Band (OOB) firmware management between the BIOS and BMC, which has been tested with the AMD EPYC™ 7000 Series platforms. AMI's BIOS and BMC firmware are highly integrated, allowing data center administrators to simultaneously, remotely and securely manage a number of server platforms out-of-box. Other features include BIOS-level firmware configuration and firmware updating. BMC functionality is based on the open industry standard specification and schema from Redfish with the goal of creating seamless integration into existing tool chains.

While the Redfish specification and schema coverage is extensive, it does not address every OOB scenario. Because of this, the Redfish specification and schema allows for OEM specific commands. These commands are what make AMI's BIOS and BMC a well-integrated solution.
