AMI Announces MG9098 Backplane Controller: First Single-Chip Solution for NVMe, SATA and SAS Drives

Wednesday: April 5, 2017

NORCROSS, GEORGIA: - AMI, a leader in innovative, centralized management solutions for enterprise infrastructures, is pleased to announce the launch of the MG9098 Backplane Controller (BPC), a low-cost, ultra-small, single-chip enclosure management solution designed to work with SATA, SAS and NVM Express™ (NVMe) SSD drives.

A key feature of the MG9098 Backplane Controller is its support for NVMe SSD drives as well as traditional SAS and SATA drives. Notably, the MG9098 is the first single-chip solution in the industry to feature support for all three types of drive interfaces. A single MG9098 controller can support a combination of eight SATA, SAS or NVMe drives simultaneously, with support for up to 32 drives using four MG9098 controllers.

With these capabilities, the MG9098 enables the world’s leading enterprise system builders and data center solution providers to design low-cost, space-efficient backplane solutions for NVMe, SAS and SATA-based storage subsystems.

"We are pleased to introduce our newest MG9098 backplane controller - a true, single-chip solution that ships ready-to-use with all key drive interface types: SAS, SATA, and NVMe. The MG9098 is the first BPC on the market to offer this functionality straight off the shelf, with no custom firmware or programming required," said Subramonian Shankar, President, Founder and CEO of AMI.

"Because it is a single-chip solution, it allows manufacturers to reduce components and chip count in their designs, for more efficient use of space and lower material cost. This type of thoughtful design underscores our constant drive to enable our OEM and ODM customers to deliver powerful and affordable products that consistently meet the performance and price requirements of cloud, data center and similar high-performance computing environments," he added.
